Charity Fashion Show 27 March 2015
To support HeForShe and Abused Women
At Sky Bar, Atrium Mall, str. Albisoara 4, Chisinau, Moldova; 27 March 2015, 21:00.
International Woman’s Day – 8 March – has come and gone. Unfortunately, problems for women in Moldova remain.
‘Women in Moldova continue to confront widespread discrimination and other violations of their rights compared to international standards. A report on Moldova by the UN Special Rapporteur on violence against women found that “domestic violence in particular is widespread, largely condoned by society and does not receive appropriate recognition among officials, society and women themselves, thus resulting in insufficient protective infrastructure for victims of violence.”’
On 27 March 2015, the anniversary of 19th amendment to the US Constitution – women’s right to vote – Status Models and Sky Bar present an evening of fashion, song and dance, to raise awareness and thus change the perception of domestic violence, particularly against women, in Moldova. In aid of Casa Marioarei, the Moldovan NGO that supports abused women.
The evening at Sky Bar, Atrium, Chisinau, will begin at 21:00 and feature
- new collections from Moldovan designers
- the official entry for Moldova at the Eurovision song contest
Status Models aims to help young women in Moldova gain self-confidence and experience in the world’s fashion markets – without ever needing to descend to the seedy end of the market that has stigmatized Moldova in the past. With the help of commercial sponsors and EU institutions, we are helping them achieve independence by promoting them as proper fashion models in the Italian and other markets – we have invested in their future by sending models to Italy to compete in the prestigious New Model Today (Gran Gala della Moda) competition. Some of the winners have worked in France, Italy and China. But they still remain under-represented and underpaid in an industry that accounts for 5% of EU GDP.
Now we are intending, with the help of commercial sponsors, EU foundations and delegations in Moldova, to present the Moldovan fashion industry – designers, dress-makers and models – to buyers and stylists in the major European capitals.
By growing the fashion industry here, giving more international exposure to Moldova and its talents, we hope to help import into Moldova a kinder mentality, one that does not tolerate domestic violence, particularly towards women.
